"Kanna, but does that person's soul attain peace and some level of resolution before your story ends? That is what I wish for."
This is what I hear from my mother when I sometimes briefly tell her about a character in a story I am planning to write or one that I have written. Occasionally, I have to tell her the harsh truth that as a writer, I will have characters who are not able to achieve this 'peace of the soul' in their lifetime, in my writings. That is part and parcel of my desire to be an 'honest writer' (whatever that beast might be) to convey something important that I want to.
"Nevertheless, I will pray for their souls to attain peace, just like I pray for you," my mother will not be dissuaded from her determination
