We are all proud of our own culture and often think it is the best or most civilized... I am originally from the Indian sub-continent and used to believe that ours was an ancient, advanced and highly civilized culture. People from other cultures used to consider themselves superior and others inferior. They would often point to features - science, music, wealth, arts, measures of prosperity, plumbing, healthcare, armaments etc and endlessly squabble about which is a more or the most civilized culture. The problem was that if we measured by its science and mathematical achievements, one culture seemed more civilized and evolved, another claimed higher ground based on music, yet another on 'human rights' or whatever. This is a perpetual and futile exercise unless we can measure all civilizations by exactly the same and identical measure that has remained constant through time and the common through all cultures and civilizations.. After extensive research, I have found it!! I have found the perfect, fair features to measure to determine which is the most civilized culture in the world! I have also found the most creative and civilized culture in the world - The Bedouins of the African desert! And the least civilized are the Hollywood celebrities.
Now, I don't know if there are Bedouins or Hollywood celebrities here among you.. If there are, I am sure they will agree. The rest of you, you cannot accuse me of being partial to my race or culture..So, just don't bother to argue. You just hear me out and see. I have done extensive research and come with solid proof. No, don't worry, I will not stress you folks with complicated graphs, tables etc. Who wants to listen to the proof of a thesis? I know the intellectual level of my audience and the state of the audience. I have prepared appropriately.
I have reduced everything logically to a few pictures that I will show you as I walk you folks through the proof.
First, let me tell you, briefly... the human progress and evolution of civilization.. No, I wont take too long. Compared to the hundreds of thousands of years of human societies evolution, summing it up in about 10 minutes is still good achievement, Don't you think?
In the beginning all humans were just like animals, they roamed around totally naked.. Doing what they pleased and how they pleased, what came naturally (unnaturally some would say). They did not feel very different from the animals around them. Then there were some 'wise' men/women among them.. I know, I know we all know the type. They think they know better than the rest of us. They think they have all the answers and often they are in positions of power. They also had powers of persuasion and a sorta-reasonable, logical sounding logic. Not unlike the politicians of today. Perhaps they were under the influence of special interest groups of those days who controlled the leaders..??
So, anyway, one day they gathered all the people around them and said
"Look we lost the chance to hunt down that gazelle, the other day because our best hunter got distracted by looking at the boobies of that girl. He missed the mark and started to chase her rather than the gazelle. His arrow hit the chief and the medicine man was too busy behind the bushes with the herb gathering lady who got distracted by his you-know-what that seemed to express an unspoken interest... The teacher at the village school is not getting through to the kids who are looking at her figure rather than the figures on the board.
Look folks, we cannot evolve into a civilized high culture at this rate. Things are too distracting and we are never able to concentrate long enough to get something done properly. We are getting too distracted by lust.
We in our finite wisdom have determined that from now on all you grown up guys and girls will have to cover up your sex bits.. Here are a few suggestions - start with a fig leaf and then we'll see how it goes."
Yes, yes, folks! This talk happened in every single culture around the world, except in the few remaining ones that still run around naked. They have just been busy and not gotten around to it... Just wait and see...
There were minor differences and adjustments in various places - some did not have fig trees around and some accidentally used poison ivy. Some used maple leaves, some used coconut or palm fronds some used long grass - You can see clear evidence of my theory even today.. But as you would expect the leaves did not always work well. The fig leaf particularly .. It kept falling off.. I have done extensive stringent research... I can vouch for it. Surely, I would not want to tell you or sell you my thesis unless it is rigorously researched.
Well, as technology and skills evolved over different places, some moved on to animal skins, loin-cloth.. As fabric and fiber technology improved they started to use cotton, silk and fancy materials.. They found that once the quality of the fabric is controlled and its stability is secure, the sexy parts could be properly and completely covered with totally opaque material. Nothing can be seen or hinted at to give the chance that it might trigger uncontrolled lust. People started to have more imagination and became susceptible to even broad areas around the sexy parts, so the clothes evolved to cover more and more of the body as civilization required ever stricter cover for the essential bits. The moment the part that is supposed to be covered is uncovered it can set off uncontrollable explosions of lust and desire and distract humans from progress and further civilization of their culture.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
So, here is the one uniform and common measure for all civilizations and cultures.. The clothes they wear to hide their sexy bits.
It was also observed that once the bits were covered up properly and in a stable manner, mathematics, sciences, physics, chemistry and mechanics advanced rather rapidly.
Some of the other areas - poetry, music, drama, theater, painting, literature and philosophy still lagged behind the STEM subjects. In a way it was understandable and allowed to be so, to be a safety valve for people to let off their steam and frustrations at not being able to see the sexy bits easily. That is why you can see such an overload and over emphasis on sex and love (a more socially acceptable substitute word for lust) in literature, poetry, music, paintings, plays and in movies etc.
The wise men/women decided to allow those acceptable lust substitute to flourish so that it kept the pressure of frustration manageable in society. They decided to give it even some praise as "artistic, creative pursuits". In some ways it helped them have privileged access to sights and scenes under the guise of approved educational subjects. They still had control over people who wanted to pursue those subjects.. You can see clear evidence of this even today all around you. What did I tell you about my well researched thesis? You can find living proof all around you, all around the world.
Well, moving on. You see the idea of covering up our sex bits or sexy bits also brings up indicates something more. It starts to reveal how creative each culture is in their sexual acts.
Now, having all this sound logic and evidence of human progress that I have mentioned, I bring up the final step of the proof, the grand finale of my logic.. Take a look at the pictures of people - Bedouin men and women from in their traditional attires.
Note that the Arab Bedouin dress covers the male and the female almost entirely and leaves only their eyes uncovered (this became a technical necessity to move around). But going by the full, opaque covering, the Arabian Bedouin is one hot, sizzling bundle of sex and lust and can express it from any part of the body, but their eyes. It is beyond their controls that even the eyes are considered 'sexy', particularly the ones behind garments that hide everything else. The thick fabric makes sure nothing suggestive can be revealed even faintly.
Now, you will also observe that I have no pictures of Hollywood celebrities on the red-carpet who are the least civilized. Their images are too inappropriate and uncivilized to post here. They can and do endanger human progress and civilization even here. They have evolved to a perverse way of legally covering the required bits but designing the clothes to attract and retain the focus of everyone exactly to the very spots that they were supposed to cover to prevent us all getting distracted and letting human society advance. You see arrows and patterns from anywhere on the dress pointing towards and leading to the very spots that we were not supposed to stare at. There are blings, holes cut out strategically and tactically to attract maximum attention and distraction.. Thank heavens no one is hunting gazelles in Hollywood these days. This Hollywood fashion is designed to defeat the progress of human society from becoming too civilized. I don't know whether to complain or just enjoy it..
This is clear evidence that human society is in the reverse gear in Hollywood. Hats off to the Bedouin (they may not take it off themselves) and all the rest of us from the naked tribes in Amazon or Africa or the rest of us, we are all more or less the same, nothing to crow about. We are still evolving.
