I endeavour to maintain a clutter free, simple reading environment that takes just a few minutes to read a complete story. This blog is free for all. One way you could 'repay' me if you like the story you have read is to refer others to this blog and the specific story. I would appreciate that kind of word-of-mouth (or its modern equivalent - email, link, Facebook posting) advertising, since it is the best kind. Kindly do to the extent you can without feeling uncomfortable or like a spammer.

Thanks for visiting and hope you enjoy reading!

The Sad Princess

Her feet were completely off the ground
They were high up in the air
Always on a pedestal she could be found
She had put herself up there

On her head an imaginary crown
Her self-esteem was really down
Outwardly, she was haughtily frowning
Inwardly, in misery she was drowning

Putting on the airs of a Princess Royal
She waited for him - a Prince who was loyal
But she nipped the bud right at the start
Whenever came along, a prince with heart

'The wait' she seemed to prefer
To any real good man
And tearfully she liked to refer
To her wrecked great life's plan

She stuck fast to her miserable groove
When she smiled, she was a striking beauty
She took upon herself, to the world to prove
That she 'never ran away from her duty'

Almost always, all poise and grace
She advised others on life
She did not let worry show on her face
While hiding her inner strife

In brief unguarded moments there were slips
Revealing her mind, without a twinge
Oh such foul words crossed her lips
That could make a sailor cringe

The more the people put up with
Her tantrums and her airs,
The more worthy she felt herself to be
"To challenge me no one dares"

'Twasnt until it was too late
The one she loved, but pretended to hate
Walked away after trying hard
He was gone by the time she lowered her guard

It never dawned on her and never made sense
How one kind word could make a big difference
If only she had been honest and humble
She would not have so much to grumble

"Everyone looks up to me," she claims
"As far as I can tell!"
"But they look up to you with pity, my dear
Since you're on a pedestal!"
