The Christmas Spirit

Met with a grumpy old man, a friend of mine with a heart of gold today. He always affectionately addresses me as "son". He is in hospital on a long recovery. I took my son along as he likes this curmudgeon. It was our "Christmas presence" for him. He was very happy to see us and in his usual manner gave my son some advice fondly with his put-on "grinch face". He always spoke about not giving gifts on occasions, not wasting money and that too borrowed money... He wants the younger generation to avoid debt whenever possible.

As expected he remarked about the supposed spirit of Christmas being lost and all the commercialization and politics he hated.
"You know what? I would rather people did not pretend and do anything special for so many on the one day of the year. Why not treat people that way throughout the year? That's the way it is supposed to be" he said.
I looked at him and smiled as I knew how much he enjoyed special gestures as gifts rather than stuff. I knew he also liked to tease or rile up people and complain about things as a habit.
"Surely, you would not be entirety happy if things were like that? Everyone being nice to each other all year long, every year.. year after year..," I said looking at his mischievous eyes as they started to develop a twinkle.
"How about one day a year set aside when one does not have to be lovey-dovey, sweet, nice and kind to everyone? How about a day with an anti-Christmas spirit? You don't have to pretend to be a loving and giving on that one day? What do you think?" I asked.
"That would be perfect, even better than what I just said," he said as he smiled broadly...

Adalat-e-Ishq

O, How The Times Have Changed!

For a long time we had politicians from the two major blocs trying to sound or appear to hold different basic values from each other to appeal to voters (even though they were basically the same). Now we have politicians from both major blocs trying to sound as if they all hold the same basic values to try and pull down those from their own party who are changing the status quo! Something has rocked their long established, smooth running gravy train.

For a long time until recently, there was just one political establishment, with one agenda in most democracies with the illusion of two major parties or blocs. Their members worked hard at trying to appear and sound different from each other and appealing to people artificially divided into a right and left. It was well understood that if the people got tired or frustrated with one government, they had the option to juggle and elect the supposed 'other'. Only effective choice was between the two fakes. Corruption become endemic and has probably peaked.

Now that true anti-establishment, nationalist and more honest opposition has cropped up from within the system and even got elected to power, suddenly we have the opposite effect - the supporters of the establishment from within both blocs trying to appeal to voters by trying to sound and appear as if they hold  the same basic values!! Most are trying hard to appear different from people in their own party or bloc! This truly warrants thinking deeply about the root causes. This has happened in India, the USA, the UK, the Philippines..And spreading around to more places.

Word War III Is On

The most important battlefield is the people's minds around the world. The media is the military. The journalists are the soldiers. The news - real and fake,  are the missiles and bombs. All other physical militaries, weapons and wars are secondary to the main battle. It is only beginning and the end is not certain at this point.

Queen Of Thoughts -

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
Queen Of Thoughts

She lived in a hut
She bore poverty, but
She was a queen within, true
Her thoughts too-beautiful, too

Vast castles imagined, she owned
She invited me over, sometimes
Letting her braids fall over my face
She let me sleep on her lap, sometimes

No Need To Die And Go To Heaven

I have often heard that someone ‘died and went to Heaven’. It came as a surprise revelation to me when I realized that, I have stayed alive and come to Heaven. I look around and find it very familiar. It looks just like the area around where I live.

I was walking outside, this evening after dark. It had rained earlier in the day and the skies had cleared up. I could feel a cool and yet exhilarating pleasant dampness as I looked up and saw the stars bright and clear above me. I could see Mars too, beautiful and a sparkling shade of red. All was quiet and peaceful with the night traffic giving a gentle hum to the background. Something I had read from a friend’s recent post on social media inspired me to think about it.

I had had my dinner and was feeling good. My children were healthy and were finding their purposes in life at school and work. They were following their hearts with hard work. Family, friends and loved ones were in touch from all over the world, wishing us well.  I am quite content with what I have. I figured, there is not much more I could have asked of Heaven. Of course, there are a couple of things I could ask for, but no need to go into that now… 😉

I reckon we all need to find our own slices of Heaven, where we are, even if for a few good moments.

Human Nature (मानव स्वभाव)

जब दिल दुख से भरा हो, ढूंढते हैं उन्हे
जो हमारी मदद करते हैं
जब दिल खुशी से फूले न समाये, ढूंढते हैं उन्हें
जिन्हे हम प्यार करते हैं
When the heart is heavy with misery,
It's one who helps, we seek
When the heart overflows with joy,
It's those we love, we seek

An Atheist's Hinduism

I have long been known as an atheist from the days of my youth. I used to rebel against blindly following what I could not understand or what no one could explain clearly. I have not changed much, but I have gathered my own understanding of the culture I was born into and the philosophies it represents. Here is my take on Hinduism as I understand it now.

1)  Laws of Nature are the true Gods and Deities.

2) Only that which is eternally true is the One Constant God. The rest are fleeting.

3) These laws include Principles, Truths, Qualities and Feelings.  Energy, Transformation, Power, Light, Darkness, Time, Attraction, Fairness, Justice, Compassion, Dispassion, Pride, Fear, Fearlessness, Anger, Love, Jealousy, Mischief, Greed, Desire, Lust, Chaos, Probability, Inertia, Innocence, Moods - are all deified in Hindu mythology.

4) All  deities  are worthy of focused attention, being meditated upon and invoked to guide our actions in life at different times. All of these  which help us do the right thing are considered 'Divine'. Some are revered as Gods to emulate and some as demons to be aware of and to avoid or deal with thoughtfully.  To value, to focus on reverently and put to practical use is considered true worship.

5) Most Gods are given a human, part-human, animal or other life form in mythology to make them easy to remember, to easily bring to mind their most prominent characteristic or quality we need to focus on. A popular story is woven around each character in a story that represents one or more qualities, characters or principles - pure or combined.

6) Seeing 'God', termed 'Darshan'  (meaning 'catching a sight') is not really about sight, but 'Insight', which is why it is sometimes achieved with the eyes closed. The story associated with a deity and its figurine or image in front of us, when looked at with a focused mind is supposed to give us flashes or insight or remind us of past insights that is relevant to our current situation. When we see a principle in operation with great clarity in our  minds, this is 'Darshan'.This can be done anywhere, even in imagination.

7) Anyone, human or animal or plant that demonstrates a certain quality or principle or value is considered just a manifestation of the Deity it represents. Hence, people, images and anything that brings to mind a certain worthy quality or principle, at a given time, are worshiped or acknowledged as a form of the God or deity.  A godly person is a God, a godly animal is a God in that form, at that moment. It might change and our attitude towards it might have to change too. If Kindness is a God, a kind person is that God. It is the quality that is being truly worshiped, not the mere form.

8) Many qualities that we in modern or unthinking times blindly term as 'bad' or 'negative' are also considered equally worthy of attention, representation in a place of worship or as general reminders in everyday life. They may have terrifying or non-elegant images, but are treated with the same respect as any other.

9) People are free to choose a deity or two or more, whichever they please from among a great number of mythical characters and images to focus on regularly or on some specific occasions or situations. They are all just a personal choice to help connect one to one's spirit, the divinity and the entire universe. People can change with times and situations. It is considered best to let people be that way and hence, by logical inference, many different models, mythologies and practices can lead people to the same spiritual truths and destinations. A person who understands Hinduism this way sees and accepts many religions as equally true, no matter the place, the people, the language, their culture or even the times they live in.

10) It is observed people choose their heroes that reflect most closely, their own inner nature - their spirit, their inner-most desires, tendencies and preferences and circumstances. It is believed that is the best way for each thinking individual to develop their own personal, direct connection to God and develop their own spirituality. Spirituality, as I understand in the Hindu context, is basically the summary of one's outlook or attitude towards all that we consider other than our own self.

11) We each have to put in effort and have the responsibility to develop our own spirituality, its growth and fruition with a direct  person connection and link to God, no middlemen to negotiate on our behalf.  All others who claim some knowledge can only share their views and perhaps point out some directions and pitfalls as fellow travelers who have _perhaps_ seen a bit more than us. It is not for them to force or tell us what to believe or do without being asked for advice. Even then, one can take or discard a piece of advice to make one's own choices and act. No person can absolve us of our sins or grant us merit in spirit. In Hinduism, as I understand, God is supposed to be on direct dial for each and everyone - no call forwarding or intermediary messaging service is to be used.

12) We all have the freedom to think, choose and act. No one is exempt from the consequences of their actions (which includes their intentions and real motives), not even the mythological characters worshiped as Gods. That 'law of Karma' - just a simple law of action and associated logical consequences, is considered one of the fundamental laws of nature and is itself considered worthy of worship and attention.

13) It is perfectly consistent with being an agnostic or atheist (as unbelieving in any particular single model or definition of God) and accepting the above.

All of these, as I have gathered seem rational, logical and make sense to me. A lot of other claims about trivia, minutiae and practices about Hinduism don't always make sense all the time.

A Second Chance At Math

I am planning to start a program where all grown-up and middle-aged folk got together, have a meal and socialize around a good fun math lesson - re-learning in fun way, without pressure all the Math in high-school that they may not remember fondly. They could try and understand Math at their own pace, no pressure of exams, of being wrong in front of their peers etc.  One simple topic in each session, they could ask questions and learn without young fragile egos in play.

I want to call it 'A Second Chance At Maths'. ;-)

Do you think it will do well?

My God! No Need For Any Miracles

I do not wish to use the concept of God to explain away what I cannot otherwise understand by my knowledge or reason. I would rather admit to my ignorance and the limits of what I know and can understand and leave it at that while trying to learn more. God for me does not have to begin where my understanding ends or as a catch-all for all the ignorance of humanity.
Any concept of God that I can subscribe to does not need to have miraculous powers (even if many inspire awe and wonder), it just does not have to go against reason or logic and truth that is known to exist. No concept of God needs to violate laws of nature and reason to impress me - if anything it makes me distrustful of such notions.

Set Out For The Day Packing A Smile, A Blessing and A Gun

From the combined stereotypical wisdom that I have acquired from the cultures I have lived in - (Indian spiritual and American practical), here is a suggested solution to reducing the problem of stressful modern life that seems to set off some individuals beyond their breaking point and explode in an act of violence against random or a targeted mass of people. This seems to be the result of a lifestyle that is associated with 'advanced' and 'developed' countries and societies today and has spread to the East and developing societies now.

This suggestion can read as totally in jest or taken completely seriously. You can laugh at it heartily and put it into practice too, if you wish to.

Try and let everyone begin their first interaction in the day packing a smile, hearing or saying a blessing and a gun.  Use the first two always to start with and continue using them constantly, as long as you can. The last one you have is just in case...

Greet everyone with a smile and a blessing (does not have to be a religious one, atheists can bless people with good wishes too, you know!). Let  the milk of human kindness drip. Let there be a spirit of friendliness, kindness and love in anything we initiate. Watch carefully how a person responds. If they reciprocate it is fine and good and let the sweetness continue as long as it can. It is only rarely that one will need the last item you carry.

While every radio or TV announcer, the first human voices we hear in the morning in this modern age is already pre-tuned to sound warm, friendly and positive, we have become de-tuned to this. Our first real human contacts are usually still grumpy, in a hurry or ill-tempered until they have had their coffee or let out a bit of their bitchiness... We accept this as normal. This needs to be changed. It used to be that we first heard human or real live voices that woke us up in the morning. All our first mornings sounds in the olden days, in the average normal families were mostly of  gentle or warm spirited words, prayers or blessings by people around us, not mechanical or electronic alarms or voices far away in studios paid to sound artificially constantly and unrealistically cheerful.

The modern part of the world today seems to have ever mounting problems, stress, tensions and angst for even the basic existence, even with the numerous conveniences, devices and technology to help, assist and supposedly give us more time for expressing our nicer side. This seething built-up stress in individuals seems to boil over with increasing frequency in some extreme, powerful outburst that often claims the lives or the normal way of life for many around the person who loses control. This is usually a terrible, terrorising act that often results in a large number of people and their families permanently affected in ways that will never be reported in the news or even watched with attention if indeed they did.

We all read this in the news reports, feel sorry or have a bit more of added stress ourselves, express a burst of sympathy for the latest victims and move on, usually quickly. We forget, as we should to be able cope ourselves. What can one do to change the dynamic? To change the dynamic of everyday as it begins and continues? To change the dynamic of every interaction all through the day? I thought about it and this is what I came up with.

What do you think?

EVIL or STUPID - Which is worse?

Which of the two is a greater danger to life in general and humans in particular?

I have often pondered this question. I tried to figure this out using an approach of determining for myself which has caused more suffering and loss - Evil or Stupidity? It seems impossible to come to a definite conclusion. Just as I think there is evidence of conclusive evidence, I am surprised or reminded by a counter evidence. It would certainly be useful in determining which of the two is worse.

While I cannot honestly confess to evil intentions, I can certainly admit to a few acts of foolishness or stupidity.

It seems in the minds of people who I can see as evil, there somehow seems to be the notion that humans view stupidity as the lesser crime. It seems to be so common, prevalent and something that all of us can honestly relate to, that it seems more forgivable.

It is a routine that never surprises me anymore - whenever a crook or terrible criminal, particularly politicians (who live off an understanding of human nature) gets caught for a truly evil or heinous crime (these are not just the ones with direct violence), they all unfailingly, at the end of their argument in court, in face of irrefutable evidence to their guilt, almost always, plead 'Stupidity' as a defense!

"I was 'silly', My Lord!"

"I was not thinking straight, your honour. I was being naive and stupid, Judge!"

So, their perception is that 'stupidity' being the lesser crime, they will get a lighter sentence. But, what if stupidity or the failure to address one's own stupidity is considered a greater or as bad a crime as being evil? Would not their pleas change? Would not society itself change?

Of course, one needs to make allowances for the very young and very old (if their mental condition has deteriorated). We already do so for these classes of humans in the way we judge or sentence them. But I hate to see crooks in their prime suddenly plead 'foolishness' or stupidity while also asking for consideration for serious medical conditions which always develop as the case nears conviction. Other than crooks, it is also the rest of us in society - we probably do more damage by failing to address our stupidity than by obvious evil intentions.

What are your thoughts on this issue?

Lucky Oldies, no social media growing up. Now is the time to have it.

In some ways I am quite thankful we did not have social media in my youth. Saved me from embarrassing myself in public when I would have also been more affected by how others viewed me. Probably true for many others of my generation. These technologies have come at the right time now for us. Even if we embarrass ourselves now we don't need to care too much about how others feel about our views and opinions.

Youngsters, you have it tough! :-)

From AI to AIO to AiYo to AiYaYo

Definitions:

AI - Artificial Intelligence

AIO (pronounced I-O) -  Artificially Intelligent Object

AiYo (pronounced Iyy-O) - A typical sound of exclamation that is original and native to Tamil speakers in India that expresses disappointment and frustration. It is a sound of my native place.

AiYaYo (pronounced Iyy-Ya-Yoh!) - A typical sound of exclamation that is original and native to Tamil speakers in India that expresses extreme disappointment or frustrationt that is beyond bounds of reasonable-ness.

As you can note from the title, there is a natural progression from AI to AiYaYo. I had this epiphany as I started to explore the new features of Windows 10, Office 365 and other new software that is supposedly 'infused with AI" as Satya Nadella is wont to point out often in public statements.  I am all for 'infusing intelligence' - artificial or natural into systems - living or software. The current state of affairs is best reflected in the title of this post.

Ultimately, one has to try and get to speak to a human with reasonable intelligence with sympathy and empathy for the user to accomplish a task. This will be the foreseeable future until the designers behind all the AI really get the following:

"Design everything keeping mind the user's mindset when interacting with the system in any particular situation - what they are trying to get done, what in their mind needs to be the model of the system, what kind of rational expectation they can have and how the system can live up to it.

A bug in software is not just a failure of the code - a better definition is "Anything that violates the rational expectation of a reasonable user is a bug."

Microsoft Windows 10 - DISNEYLAND OR CANDY STORE IN A MINEFIELD??

Imagine designing an attractive, cool theme park like Disneyland to attract millions of eager, excited tourists or laying out a dreamland of candy stalls for children, all set in a minefield. I am sure we would all agree it would be a cruel thing to do. You see something attractive and head towards it and suddenly without your realizing it, BOOM!! you have stepped upon a mine and have been blown up.

I recently upgraded to a personal computer running Microsoft Windows 10. It was one my young college going son had been using for a few years, while I stuck to an older machine. The generation gap between our machines was like much like between ourselves.

This newer operating system looked delightfully enticing, attractive, seem to have so many cool features - it sounded like a treat. It’s like a kid going to a candy store with an overwhelming array of attractive looking candy displayed, each beckoning to be tried. Some were familiar and some new. I was excited and looking forward to it.

I used the new machine setting up my own applications for a business idea. I noted it was using both the Wi-Fi and Ethernet connection at home, connected to a modem on my phone line. I decided to turn off the WIFI and use only the Ethernet connection from the Network and Internet Settings Page. The PC was sent into 'Airplane' mode somehow- I suppose the clever new OS decided that airplanes these days might have an Ethernet connection on board (perhaps they do for first class passengers, a cable at their seat... I don't know.) Anyways, I decided to turn back the Wi-Fi ON, through the Network and Internet Settings Page. It briefly showed the switch turning ON and then automatically turned itself OFF in a few seconds!  I was wondering if something was wrong. I went to the Airplane Mode setting on the setting page to see if I could turn it OFF. It would not let me. The whole thing had been disabled because the Wi-Fi was OFF! I could not figure out what was preventing me from turning the Wi-Fi back on. Repeated attempts with my admin privilege on the machine failed without any explanation or discernable reason. The Wi-Fi would be shown momentarily ON then turn OFF by itself!!

I wondered if something was wrong with the modem, or the network adapters on my PC. I checked that the home Wi-Fi modem did indeed work for other devices at home. Then I ran the Windows diagnostics for the network adapters for Wi-Fi and my Ethernet on the PC. Windows said everything was working fine, with repeated attempts. It asked if it could find a problem resolution Online. I said fine, it tried but could not. It then offered a suggestion to reset the network adapters on my PC to their original settings to see if the problem would go away. It seemed a logical and reasonable approach. So, I went ahead despite a couple of cautionary dialog boxes coming up. I had no other choice that I could see. Resetting the network adapters and then rebooting caused the machine to start up and show an error soon after I signed in, saying the WindowsSocket initialization had failed. Then came a warning that the system would shut down in 1 minute and sure enough it did. Thus, there is an endless loop of the machine rebooting and becoming unusable. I called up the manufacturer of the PC and they worked patiently with me over the phone for over an hour and decided that the hardware was fine and that I should go back to installing the original Windows 7 operating system that it came with! My son had upgraded to Windows 10 during the free upgrade period!

I tried Microsoft support forum and feedback and got a suggestion to try and get an ISO disk or get a bootable USB stick to boot up to, try and repair the system. Trying that failed! There was one other option left - to reinstall Windows 10 and lose all the apps that had been installed since the original purchase of the machine. The personal files and folders we had created would be saved but the apps and their data would all be lost.  I went ahead with that and surely enough the machine was made usable again.

It was with great frustration that I found out later that I could have turned ON Wi-Fi with a shortcut Keystroke - a function FN + F2 key... That turned ON Wi-Fi and the Airplane mode OFF. something I could not do from the Network and Internet Settings Page!! This is so counter-intuitive.

I would imagine with all the new fancy AI, Cortana, supposedly smart assistants popping up all over the place, all the time, even when one never asked for them or wanted them, something would have popped up and asked "Hey! I see you are trying to turn Wi-Fi ON from the Airplane mode.  You cannot do it this way for the following reason. Do you want me to help? You can do it this way."

Isn't there a simple way to help one get their desired task done or tell them authoritatively and conclusively, why it CANNOT be done, with all the hype about an intelligent system? Is there a way to prevent a user from getting the system into a horrible state doing something that seems logical and reasonable?

This seems just another case of poorly design or a lack of design for a clear, simple user interaction with a machine. It is like setting up a lot of fancy, alluring candy stalls in a minefield. One 'wrong' move and you are blown up.

This is particularly embarrassing for me as a former test engineer for Microsoft, talking up the company and its products to a son who grew up with Google, Apple, Facebook and the companies considered 'cool' by the next generation. He rightly points to a user sympathetic and empathetic design culture in the features of Google and Apple products! I wish Microsoft made a commitment to do the same. It is high time.

I grew up and worked at a time when the people were in awe with technology to the point that if the system failed due to some action on their part, they felt stupid and lacking knowledge of how this complicated computer worked. They blamed themselves or felt ashamed that they did not know the gory details of how the system worked and why it failed. That is no longer acceptable. People want to move and get their work done. They want the system to understand them and not the other way around. They rightly resent being made to needlessly understand the intricacies of a poorly designed computer system. They don’t want to work in a minefield, much less visit it and wander around for pleasure.

Clear The Minefield Microsoft!

Gun Laws And Violence in the USA - What Needs To Change

There are always some very good and very bad parents and will always be so. These will do their part no matter what the laws. It is the large number of those, in the middle, who are struggling with their lives as it is, that make the difference in the dominant culture. A too 'prosperous' society easily lets immature, almost adults escape any sort of desirable parental control at 18 or earlier. Most minds don't mature sufficiently, until the early twenties and that too after a bit of struggle with adult, responsible society, with a support system of family to pick them up a few times. It is time to get back to some of the best features of the old ways.

Society has reached a tipping point - the state's take over of the children (perfectly justified in cases of clear, consistent abuse) to protect their rights has a downside, in the case of the struggling middle or poor socioeconomic class. The parents will give up their responsibilities, along with their traditional rights over children - this used to last well into their twenties in the past and with good reason. The state's system to protect abused children is not in good shape in most places - it has become a vast bureaucracy, often adding to the long term problem of youth alienated from the society, lacking empathy. The violent, disrespectful popular youth culture promoted in movies, games and culture as 'entertainment' really cements attitudes to shocking violence as 'fun'.

Not guns, but the social attitudes are the real problem. It is not possible to keep technology or arms or guns out of reach of a determined crook or a determined youngster in their teens. They can be quite focused on anything they choose. The gun laws in the USA are enshrined in the constitution for a very good reason and defines one of the best spirit of that country - its origin, sustenance and the reason for its rise. The effects of the gun laws bred a culture that has also brought it great strength and character over a couple of centuries. IMO, the positive effect of the gun laws of the USA  is as follows. It developed a culture of polite, smooth and sophisticated, respectful-yet-watchful style of greeting and interaction even with strangers, not knowing from which direction or where the first or next bullet would come from in case of a first threatening or false move.
It helped make physically weaker people fearless. The practice of the win of calm reasoning over muscular might (guns were the equalizer in the USA) is a great contributor to the rise of the USA domestically - its economy, innovative, hardworking culture.

These shocking random acts of gun violence in schools and public places is more recent and comes mostly from those who are far removed from the best of the American spirit and the spirit of its constitution. These are people who are outcome of a degenerated portion of the cultures - whether they are local or illegal immigrants. These are disturbed individuals who have fallen through the cracks of a broken social culture - that was once a small minority, but has grown in numbers greatly.

The society in the USA needs a change - in my opinion, not in the fundamental gun laws but in the attitude towards violence in their popular culture. That is the only way to address this issue. Making more law abiding and well-intentioned people even more helpless in the face of an armed offender is the opposite of what needs to happen. Quick social change in culture is hard - but achievable - if people want to be honest, admit the real problem, throw out petty, divisive politics. That does not seem an easy task in today's toxic sociopolitical climate in the USA or in most places for that matter!

Total Eclipse Super Moon

Super Moon Total Eclipse!
The word was on everyone's lips
Millions of upturned faces
'Round the world, of all races

It was truly a marvelous sight
So many looked up with awe
The moon turned red last night
Because of the things _it_ saw

A pause for some from petty fights
They'll get back to it soon
For just a moment in their sights
Will be that blood red moon

For others who stealthily love
Its one witness from above
Just watching, nothing said
Its face blushing red

For those who fought
In anger it flushed
For those who loved
In shyness it blushed

The moon has seen it all before
This long strange human dance
This bloodied red earth of gore
And exquisite sweet romance

We saw the shadow on the moon,
Totally eclipse its light
Does it see same on the earth
As we love, yet fight?

What gives me hope is seeing the moon
After the eclipse passes
Knowing the same will be on earth, soon
Despite the many Jacka**es!

Shayari Ka Lutf

ENGLISH TRANSLATION :

The Pleasure Of Poetry

The pleasure of poetry is after all
In listening to a couple of words
and reciting a couple of them

Sometimes of words there was a need
At other times they fell short indeed
My Story - I told for hours,
She, in one quick look, told Her's and Our's

Tanhaa Ummeed Mein Umr

Tanhaa ummeed mein
Barson beet gaye

Barson beet gaye
Ek dil ki baat poochhne mein

Ek dil ki baat poochhne mein
Bas do pal hi lage

Bas do pal hi lage
Unke dil ki baat woh jaan gaya

Unke dil ki baat woh jaan gaya
Aur ab kayi baras beet gaye

Aur ab kayi baras beet gaye
Tanhaa ummeed mein

Aakhir mile to chand dinon mein umr hi beet gaya

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:

Lonely Lifetime In Hope

Lonely and in hope
Many years passed

Many years passed
In asking what was in her heart

In asking what was in her heart
It took only a few seconds

It took only a few seconds
He knew what was in her heart

He knew what was in her heart
And many years have passed

And many years have passed
Lonely and in hope

Finally when they got together, in a few days a lifetime ended.
